For our May hike, we’ll venture out to Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park in Cobb County for a walk on the Environmental Trail (we may tackle the mountaintop trail in the fall).
This is just a 1.35 mile hike, but your scout will earn two miles on his passport for this excursion. You can also stick around and enjoy on your own some of the great historical features at this park, which interprets the the Civil War battle of Kennesaw Mountain, or visit the nearby Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History.
Meet at 10 a.m. at the Environmental Trail trailhead, which is located across the parking lot from the Visitor’s Center. It should take about 45 minutes to get there, assuming clear traffic.
Be advised: this is a very popular park and the parking lot can fill up quickly. You may be directed to park in an overflow lot some distance away and walk back to the visitor center. Please leave enough time to ensure you’ll be at the trailhead on time even if you have to park at this remote location.
The trail is largely flat, but does have a fair number of roots and rocks, so caution is advised.

New for this hike, and all future hikes: You will be asked to fill out an activity consent form for all members of your party. You can access the form here:
Please remember to have scouts bring a small backpack with the basic essentials for outdoor activity (water, trail food, insect/sun protection, rain protection, light source and a whistle).
This hike should be completed in about one hour.
